Hard water and scale
Hardness comes from dissolved calcium and magnesium. It shows up as scale on fixtures, spotting on glass, and reduced efficiency in water-using appliances.
Sediment and turbidity
Suspended particles can cloud water and wear on valves and fixtures. Sediment filtration is usually the first stage of a whole-property system.
Chlorine taste and odor
Municipal supplies are disinfected, and the residual can carry a distinct taste or smell. Carbon media is the common approach for reducing it.
Filtration vs. conditioning vs. softening
Filtration removes or reduces material from water. Softening exchanges hardness minerals. Conditioning changes how minerals behave without removing them. They solve different problems.
Reverse osmosis basics
RO pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane to reduce dissolved solids. It is typically installed at a single tap rather than for the whole property.
What testing can and cannot tell you
A test is a snapshot of one sample at one time. It is useful for selecting equipment, and it is not a health assessment.
Understanding pH and alkalinity
pH measures how acidic or basic water is. Alkalinity measures its capacity to resist pH change. Neither is the same as hydrogen gas dissolved in water.
